Deep Dive: Lost For Words by Pink Floyd

Today’s episode is a “Deep Dive” on the song Lost For Words by Pink Floyd. Lost For Words was released in 1994 as a part of the Division Bell album. It was written by Pink Floyd’s singer and guitarist David Gilmour. This is one of my favorite songs of all time, and we’re going to really break it down. We’re going to be looking specifically at the lyrics, form, and instrumentation of the song.

Segment 1: Lyrics

  •  The whole gist of the lyrics is an awakening of sorts - coming out of a time of darkness into a renewed sense of love and making amends
  • The song strives to communicate that getting caught in grudges only hurts yourself, and it’s time to forgive those who hurt you

Segment 2: Form

Add details on segment 1. What did you talk about? Summarize the main points here.

  • Lost For Words follows a clear structure which contributes to the message
  • The build-up, climax, and full-circle ending make for a satisfying result

Segment 3: Instrumentation
